For the past few weeks I have tried distancing myself from a friend of mine, for I have felt there has been a strain on our relationship because I have pressed onto her one or two topics she does not want to discuss. I have pushed myself away from her mainly because she's a good friend and I don't want to lose her as a friend. There are times I want to say something about one of our other topics(she can probably guess which one), but at the same time I don't want to talk to her as well(she can guess why there too). I'm not sure what I should do in this situation and if my friend reads this I'd like to know what she thinks.

If you don't want to lose her as a friend, then distancing yourself will probably be contra-productive. Drifting apart is something neither of you two would want to happen, right? Not replying for days will only make her wonder if you are alright and whether she said something wrong to you, something that might have hurt your feelings or something that offended you. In any case honestly talking about it seems to be the better solution. And even if some words of hers seemed to be harsh, I'm quite certain she isn't mad at you or anything and just tried to get her point across. I hope that helped a little bit.
